Kettle app support
Kettle is an iPhone journal made by one person. This page is Kettle app support: how to reach me, what to try first, and what I can and can’t do for you.
Email me
Write to support@kettlejournal.com. I’m Andrew, I build Kettle on my own, and I read every message. I can’t promise a fast reply, but you’ll get one from me and not from a script.
I’m not a clinician, so I can help with the app but not with advice about your anger. If that’s what you need, the Get help page is the right place to start.
What should I include in a support message?
- Your iPhone model and iOS version. You’ll find both in Settings › General › About.
- What you tapped, what happened, and what you expected to happen.
- A screenshot, if it shows the problem and nothing private.
Please don’t paste journal entries into an email. I never need them to fix a bug.
Troubleshooting by feature
Reminders and notifications
- No reminder arrived. Open Kettle’s Settings tab. If it says notifications are turned off for Kettle in iOS Settings, tap Open Settings and allow them.
- The reminder came on some days and not others. “Skip if I’ve journaled” is on by default, so you won’t be reminded on a day you’ve already written.
- The journal reminder arrives once a day at most, at the time you set. Meditation and exercise have their own reminders, which are off until you turn them on.
Voice and dictation
- The first time you tap the mic, iOS asks for the microphone and for speech recognition. Kettle needs both. If you said no, you can change it in the iPhone’s Settings app, under Kettle.
- If Kettle’s Settings tab says dictation is not available for your language on this iPhone, your phone can’t recognise that language on the device. Kettle won’t send your voice to a server, so dictation stays off and typing still works.
- If the mic button is missing, check that Dictation is switched on in Kettle’s Settings tab.
Widgets
- A widget is empty. Open Kettle once. The widgets have nothing to show until the app has created your journal.
- A widget looks out of date. Widgets update when you save an entry in the app, and again at midnight. Opening Kettle refreshes them.
Meditation, bells and the Lock Screen
- The timer on your Lock Screen is part of Kettle Plus. The first time you meditate, iOS asks whether to allow Live Activities. If you said no, or Live Activities are off in iOS Settings, the session still runs without one.
- With the sound set to Silence and the phone locked, the interval bells don’t ring. iOS pauses an app that isn’t playing anything. You’ll still get a notification when the session ends, if notifications are allowed.
Face ID lock
- The lock is greyed out. Kettle’s lock needs a passcode on your iPhone. Set one in the iPhone’s Settings app and the option becomes available.
- Face ID didn’t recognise you. Tap the unlock button to try again, or use your passcode.
Kettle Plus and purchases
- Plus isn’t showing after you paid, or you have a new phone. Open Kettle’s Settings tab, tap Kettle Plus, then Restore purchases. A paid subscription follows your Apple Account.
- You chose “I can’t pay right now” and then reinstalled Kettle. That choice is saved on the phone, so choose it again.
- To cancel or change a subscription, go to Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions on your iPhone. Apple handles billing and refunds. Pricing explains how Plus works.
What Kettle doesn’t do
These come up, so here’s the list. Kettle doesn’t let you edit a saved entry. It has no export, and no sync or backup of its own. It doesn’t run on iPad or Android, it’s in English only, and it doesn’t use AI.
If one of those matters to you, tell me. I can’t promise a date for any of them, but I’d like to know.
What can support see about my journal?
Nothing. Kettle has no account and no server, so your journal exists only on your iPhone. That means I can’t look anything up, and I can’t restore an entry you’ve lost.
If you delete the app, your journal is deleted with it. If you move to a new phone, restoring from your iPhone’s own backup is how your journal comes with you. The privacy policy has the detail.
Send feedback or a feature request
Email me at the same address. It helps most if you tell me the problem you’re trying to solve, not only the feature you’d like. I’m one person, so I can’t build everything, but I read every request.
Is Kettle out yet?
Not yet. Kettle is coming soon to iPhone and isn’t on the App Store today. There’s no Android app, no web app and no waiting list. The common questions page has more.
If anger is hurting you or the people around you
Kettle is a journal, not a therapist, and I can’t give clinical advice by email. Please talk to a professional. The Get help page lists crisis lines and ways to find support. If you or someone else is in danger right now, call your local emergency number.
